Sign posed amidst trash on 2011/10/13.
This sign reading “We the People - RESIST!” was rescued from a pile of trash on Broadway near the intersection of Liberty Ave on October 13, 2011, the night before the planned “clean-up” of Liberty Plaza by Zuccotti Park owners, Brookfield Properties, enforced by our public servants, the NYPD and Mayor Michael Bloomberg, (though it was ultimately unsuccessful). Occupy Wall Street undertook a pre-emptive cleaning of Liberty Plaza, which likely included a fair amount of wet and damaged signs that could have been preserved by the OWS Archives’ growing inventory of protest signs.
So, for any of you in/around Liberty Square, before TRASHING that sign, you should consider that one occupier’s trash is another human’s historical treasure.
